Chanel’s Métiers d’Art Show Had a Playlist to Fit the Manchester Mood. Little did Chanel’s Virginie Viard know that she would make longtime collaborator Michel Gaubert’s dreams come. The new Métiers d’Art collection is captured in a series of images shot by Senegalese photographer Malick Bodian and featuring models Alaato Jazyper and Loli Bahia. Captured by the River Seine in Paris, the pieces designed by creative director Virginie Viard and brought to life by the Maisons d’art take center stage.
Métiers d’Art means ‘art professions’, and it is the title given to the annual Chanel collection that pays homage to the small specialist workshops that Chanel began buying in 1984, in order to preserve the expertise and craftsmanship associated with French luxury. The inaugural Métiers d’art show, named Satellite Love, featured 33 looks presented to a small audience of editors and clients at Chanel’s haute couture salon in Paris.The sophisticated, modern and precious motifs that contribute to magnifying the CHANEL collections are all made using needlework, a Lunéville crochet hook or with the Cornely, a century-old embroidery machine guided by the hand. .
